"Striving for the Divine" in Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford
In September 2016, Corde di Gioia, a gifted trio of musicians, came to Christ Church cathedral to give a lunchtime recital. Dressed in Regency costume, they performed work from the Regency period, which included work by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Schubert.
With her beautiful voice, Maria Johannsen takes sacred music to a higher plane, while her daughters (Anna and Giuly) skilfully and sensitively accompany her on cello, violin and piano. The programme at Christ Church Cathedral was well-chosen and varied, historically fascinating, and musically inspirational. It was absolutely ideal for this sacred space. Everyone in the audience left the Cathedral feeling grateful to God for the group’s collective talents and uplifted by the power and gift of their music. Highly recommended.

Intimate concert in the Pyramid
An intimate atmosphere can also arise under a glass pyramid is what the audience at the German Central Library in Aabenraa experienced Wednesday as they came for the Rückert evening. Maria Johannsen (song and piano) and her daughters Anna (cello, piano, song) and Giuly (violin, piano and song) (...) held the audience spellbound. Maria Johannsen studied physics, but has a great passion and skill for music. She put the programme together which contained numerous Lieder with texts by Rückert and music by many different composers such as Schubert, Mahler and Loewe and led the audience with great knowledge through the programme (...)
The interpretation of „Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen“ by Mahler was especially touching, while the song „Kleiner Haushalt“ with all its small animals brought to life by Anna Johannsen in the piano accompaniment brought a smile to everyone's lips.
Corde di gioia – Strings of joy (...) managed a lyrically musical evening that left the audience enriched and happy as they went home.

Corde Di Gioia travelled to St. Petersburg during the famous White Nights in the end of June, and performed outdoors at the Danish Midsummer party on the green park island Yelagin. On the following day, the happy trio also performed indoors in connection with the international eco-festival “Green Petersburg”. During both occasions I had the pleasure of witnessing the skilful musicians adapt to the audience and acoustics at the venues and play and sing a wide variety of compositions, including works by the jubilarian Carl Nielsen. The enthusiasm and positive attitude of all three members of Corde Di Gioia is recommendable, as is their musicality. I hope that they will be able to contribute to a joyful atmosphere at many venues and festivals all around Europe.
